Trance Around the World, the legendary trance radio show put on by Above and Beyond which was enjoyed by many millions of trance fans worldwide weekly, is officially no more. But don’t worry: its 450th Episode spectacular, which is taking place at the Jayamahal Palace in Bangalore, India, marks the transition to a new show titled Group Therapy.
As described on the Above and Beyond website, the news is more of a brand switch than an official end to the show, as “the music policy will remain the same. Above & Beyond will continue to present 90 minutes of the best in trance and progressive, with a 30 minute guest mix from some of their favourite artists each week.”
Trance Around the World was reported to have attracted 30 million weekly listeners spanning 30 countries all around the globe. Its typical format was a two-hour trance mix: 30 minutes for each of the three members of Above and Beyond and the final 30 minutes as a guest mix from a visiting trance artist. And it is expected that the new Group Therapy show will keep up this same organization.
Here’s the official message from Above and Beyond about their new Group Therapy show:
Group Therapy captures the relationship between us, our music and you, our audience, and the magic that happens when those three things interact. It’s something you’ve all taken into your hearts and it lies at the centre of everything that we do – the community, the connection, the interaction. Our radio show is our weekly Group Therapy with all of you.
What do you think is the reasoning behind Above and Beyond deciding to end TATW and start up a new show, especially when it appears the content and format will remain largely the same?
